The shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is deplorable. Predictably enough it also brought out calls to ban guns. The first online comment I read:

… This is another reason why the “right to bear arms” is dangerous. So many guns out there, especially in Az, and when they shoot, they hurt. Let’s try and get guns off the street.
To which I posted a response to the effect that they would also have to get cars off the street and included a link to Al-Qaeda: Ram cars into crowds for Allah. This contains numerous examples of car jihad. Needless to say the mainstream media censored the comment. Spurring me to pull out the examples from the link and write this post.
An example of a car attack the mainstream media in Australia do not want you to know about include:
Jihad attack at UNC-Chapel Hill. Taheriazar told police he was seeking retribution for the treatment of Muslims around the world, according to ABC News justice correspondent Pierre Thomas. Taheriazar apparently told police he tried to rent the biggest SUV he could find to use in the attack.
Mohammed Taheri-azar, a 2005 UNC-Chapel Hill graduate, smiled and waved before his hearing Monday. Taheri-azar told the courtroom that he was “thankful for the opportunity to spread the will of Allah.”
As he left court, Taheri-azar told reporters, “the truth is my lawyer.” When asked if he was trying to kill people, he said yes.
Most of the other examples in Al-Qaeda: Ram cars into crowds for Allah are less clear cut. They could be the result of mental illness rather than religious inspiration. Although the attempted honor killing might have religious inspiration it differs to Jihad. Needless to say there have also been examples in Jerusalem.
But the issue of banning guns or cars is secondary. The shooting of the Congresswomen shows all the signs of being yet another manifestation of the Left’s undermining of our society. The exact reasons why the shooter acted are unknown and may never be known. But his youtube listing of his favourite books include Mein Kampf and the Communist Manifesto. While these are iconic texts for National Socialists and International socialists I have never heard them listed amongst the favorite of Conservatives, Libertarians or Christians.
A copy of the shooter’s youtube page is pasted below:

Books such as Animal Farm and Brave new World tend to have a wider support base. As for We the Living, well Ayn Rand normally sits with the Libertarians. But again I’ve never heard one anyone say this is their favorite book. But not living in the USA means I have met few libertarians to offset the masses of socialists.
